JONES LEADS SPRINT CARS INTO TERRE HAUTE'S "ACTION TRACK"
Key Championship Points, Special "King of the Action Track" Trophy Up for Grabs
The First Financial Bank Sprint Car Classic presented by MacAllister Machinery and Dorsett Mitsubishi is on-tap this Saturday night at the Terre Haute Action Track as the battle for the USAC National Sprint Car Championship continues. Tony Stewart Racing driver Levi Jones of Avon, Indiana has a 40-point lead over Dave Darland entering Saturday's program, during which a total of 74 points are available.
Jones and Darland are both multiple race winners at the half-mile Indiana oval. Jones has won five Sprint races there while Darland has won in all three USAC National racing series at the historic oval. Jones won this year's "Tony Hulman Classic" at the Action Track, while Brad Sweet was the winner of the "Indiana Sprint Week" feature in July.
In addition to fighting it out for the winner's trophy, and valuable championship points, drivers will also be competing for the First Financial "King of the Action Track" award, a special trophy recognizing the driver that has had the most success at the legendary half-mile in 2009.
"It's been several years since the Action Track has been fortunate enough to host three USAC National Sprint Car Series events during a single season, " said Mike King of Action Promotions, LLC. "Brian, Chris, Davey and I are honored to have the track play such a key role in deciding this year's USAC National Sprint Car Series Champion, so we thought it would be nice to recognize the driver that has consistently scored top finishes this season."
The Action Track ticket office opens Saturday afternoon at 3pm, with fan gates set to open at 4pm. Sprint Cars will roll out of the pits for engine warm-up and hot laps at 5pm, with single car qualifying set to get underway at 6pm. Sponsors First Financial Bank, MacAllister Machinery and Dorsett Mitsubishi are making the race more affordable for fans, combining to offer free tickets for kids 12 and under when adults purchase general admission grandstand or bleacher tickets. No coupon is required.
The $25 Infield Family Pass will also be available, with two adults and up to 4 children (12 and under) admitted into the infield. Advance reserved tickets are avilable by calling 812-236-7951. Additional event info is available at www.theactiontrack.com. Saturday's event will also feature the HI-99 Sundown Concert, with Rick Ledune and Awesome Possum Project playing Live from the infield tower throughout the evening when cars aren't on-track.
