USAC will return to the Lone Star State of Texas June 6-7 for back-to-back Southwest Sprint Car Series races at two 1/3-mile dirt ovals in Lubbock. The races will be USAC's first in Texas since Arie Luyendyk's victory in a 500-kilometer Indy Racing League event at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth in 1997.

The races will be at Lubbock Motor Speedway (June 6) and Tech Motor Speedway (June 7) and both races will include 30-lap feature events.

The races will be USAC's first for Sprint Cars in Texas since Rick Hood won at Devil's Bowl near Dallas in 1985.

USAC actually raced in Lubbock in 1967, Gary Bettenhausen and Mel Kenyon recording Midget Car wins at West Texas Speedway.

At least two Texas drivers have been competing in USAC's Southwest Sprint Car Series, including Lubbock's own Gary Appel. The other is Leighton Crouch of Shallowater.

Mike Martin of Yuma, Ariz. currently leads the series standings going into two Arizona races this weekend. Defending series champion Mike Boar of Phoenix ranks 10th after a disappointing start to his 2003 season.

A.J. Foyt of Houston is USAC's winningest driver in Texas events, with 12 career wins.
