Saturday night's New Mexico/Arizona USAC Regional Sprint Car Series debut at The Speedway of Southern New Mexico in Las Cruces has received sponsorship from Budweiser, Pepsi & Hooters. The "Budweiser Shootout," co-sponsored by Pepsi and Hooters, includes a 30-lap feature on the 3/8-mile dirt track.

Top drivers and teams from both states are gearing up for the series opener, including Mike Boat of Phoenix, Ariz., brother of Indianapolis 500 and Indy Racing League veteran Billy Boat. Mike finished fifth in USAC's 2000 Western Sprint Car Series ont he strength of 10 "top-10" finishes, including a feature win at Bakersfield, Calif.

Other top series contenders expected to compete are 5-time New Mexico Sprint Car Champion Steve Nix of Santa Fe, N.M., former Arizona Racing Association Champion Rick Sipes, New Mexico's "Wild Child" Tim West (Albuquerque) and Las Cruces' own Ziehl family, brothers Mike and John, plus Mike's on Matt.

Saturday's race is the first of nine on the 2002 USAC New Mexico/Arizona Regional Sprint Car calendar and the first of two slated at Las Cruces.
