Hewitt Claims Usac Sprint 'Prairie Event

SUN PRAIRIE, WI, June 10---Jack Hewitt scored an exciting victory in the 30-lap USAC Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series event Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway. The event was part of the Rayovac sponsored doubleheader which also featured the Badger Midget Series.

Drama was set for the event before the start as current series point leader Dave Darland had the chance for a $50,000 bonus, after winning the Badger Midget Feature.

Polesitter Jack Hewitt jumped into the lead at the start, with Darland second at the completion of the opening circuit. The pair quickly pulled away from the field, with Hewitt increasing his lead each circuit. Great wheel to wheel racing was taking place through out the field.

Hewitt began entering lapped traffic shortly before the half way point, and held a 2 second with ten laps remaining. Hewitt worked through several lapped cars during the final circuits to score a 3.8 second win over Darland, Tony Elliott, Cory Kruseman, and J.J. Yeley.

The win gave Hewitt his 45th career USAC National Sprint Car win, tying him with Larry Dickson for second place on the all-time list.
