The 2009 USAC/SMRA Great Plains Midget Series officially opens this weekend with races in Arkansas and Oklahoma and drivers Brady Bacon and Brad Loyet are set to do battle for the point lead.

Bacon, of Broken Arrow, Okla., holds a slim two-point lead over Loyet, of Sunset Hills, Mo. after two races in Texas, which carried only SMRS sanction.

Friday night's race at North Central Arkansas Speedway in Yellville, AR marks the first time USAC has visited the Razorback State since Gary Wright's victory in a late model at Fort Smith Speedway in 1986.

Saturday night's race at Siloam Springs Speedway in West Siloam Springs, Okla. is USAC's first at the track and the first in the Sooner state since Evan Sewell's victory in a late-2005 Ford Focus race at Tulsa Speedway.
