SPRINTS GEAR UP FOR SHARON SPEEDWAY RACE AUGUST 25; RAIN FORCES HALT TO SALEM 50-LAPPER

Levi Jones of Olney, Ill. will lead the Lucas Oil USAC National Sprint Cars to Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio August 25, the next stop for USAC's "Thunder & Lightning" series. Unfortunately Thunder and Lightning prevailed Saturday night as the 48th Cardinal Contracting "Joe James/Pat O'Connor Memorial" at the Salem (Ind.) Speedway was rained out.

Only 15 of the 50 scheduled laps had been completed at Salem before the rains fell. An abbreviated points payout was allocated to the participants, which left Jones 104 points ahead of Darren Hagen in the new standings. Jones was Saturday's fastest Salem qualifier and won the 10-lap semi.

Heat race victories at Salem went to Dave Darland, Jesse Hockett and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
