MIDGETS TACKLE SALEM'S HIGH BANKS SATURDAY

Brad Kuhn of Avon, Ind. returns to the Salem (Ind.) Speedway this Saturday for the 50th running of the "Joe James/Pat O'Connor Memorial" events at the storied high-banked paved oval. As the leader in USAC's Mopar National Midget series standings, he hopes for a top finish to help propel him to his first series title.

Kuhn won this race two years ago and has a 41-point lead over Brad Sweet entering Saturday's competition.

Former race winners Bryan Clauson, Jerry Coons Jr. and Dave Darland are also expected to be on hand Saturday, with Dave Steele's 1-lap track record of 116.099 mph in jeopardy.

Saturday's race will be the 24th for USAC Midgets at Salem, which first hosted the series in 1956, a race won by George Amick.
