Yeley seeks to increase all-time USAC record at Joliet

J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz., with 21 USAC feature victories already tucked under his belt this season, will try to add to his new all-time single-season USAC record this Friday night in the USAC Sprint/Midget "doubleheader" at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill.

Yeley has 11 USAC National Sprint Car wins this season and leads the series by a hefty 277 points over runner-up Tracy Hines. Three more victories would tie J.J. with Tom Bigelow for the single-season USAC National Sprint Car victory record of 14, set in 1977.

A 30-lap feature event caps both the Sprint and Midget action at the 1/2-mile dirt Joliet oval, located adjacent to Chicagoland Speedway, site of this weekend's Delphi Indy 300 Indy Racing League activity. USAC practice starts at 5 pm, with qualifying at 6 and racing at 7.

Jay Drake captured last year's Joliet Sprint race and ranks third in the current standings, just 16 behind Hines. Drake has posted three victories in 2003 National Sprint racing and in July became the fastest driver in Sprint car history with his qualifying lap of 144.950 mph at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado!
