SPRINT CARS RETURN TO RMR SUPER OVAL MEMORIAL DAY; MURGOITIO 2-FOR-2 AT ROCKY MOUNTAIN RACEWAYS

The USAC Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series continues on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25 T Rocky Mountain Raceways and Mike Murgoitio of Meridian, Idaho will try to continue his 2009 dominance of the 3/8-mile paved oval.

Murgoitio won Saturday night's 40-lap feature in the Utah, his second win in two series events there. Mike and his GM Land & Cattle Eagle caught Brian McClish on lap 20 and led the rest of the way to beat Jim Waters, JoJo Helberg, Jeff Bergener and James Powell. Ryan Burdett posted the fastest qualifying time. Bergener led the first four laps and McClish the next 15 before yielding to Murgoitio.

Murgoitio hopes to become only the third driver to win three straight USAC Sprint races at RMR. Jimmy Wysong won four in a row in 2006 and three in a row in 2005 and Jim Waters won three in a row in 2004.

Brian McClish, who has a second and a seventh this season, trails Murgoitio by 27 points in the new standings, just one point ahead of Waters, who is third after finishing second on Saturday night.
