With a strong qualifying time and a second-place finish in her heat race, Alison MacLeod was gunning for her third consecutive top-five finish -- and potentially her first victory -- in the USAC Regional Midget Car Series race at Illiana Speedway on Wednesday night.

MacLeod started on the front row and led the first eight laps before eventual winner Brian Olsen took over the lead. Just four laps later, MacLeod would be sidelined with engine difficulties in the East Enterprises No. 6 Ford Racing Technology/Beast Chassis Beast. MacLeod finished a disappointing 16th but her performance still left her and the team upbeat.

"It's a tough break to run that good and end up in the pits before the race is over," MacLeod said. "Bob East and the rest of the team had the car running great. We qualified well and ran well in the heat race and I thought we were going to have a great shot and getting up there and racing for the win. We have great engines week in and week out. They always make a lot of power and the reliability is just awesome. I don't know what happened in the engine but I'm sure our guys will take it apart and figure out what it was and make sure it doesn't happen again."

MacLeod still sits third in the USAC Regional Midget Car Series standings, 28 points behind leader Dakoda Armstrong.

The next USAC Regional Midget Car Series race is slated for May 30 at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill.
