East Leads National Midgets To Wisconsin in Return To Beaver Dam Saturday

Bobby East of Brownsburg, Ind. leads the USAC National Midget Car Series to the Raceway @ Powercom Park this Saturday as the series makes its first appearance in Beaver Dam, Wisc. in seven years.

East, who became USAC's youngest National midget race winner in history in 2001, was challenging for the win in Sunday's Sprint car opener at Anderson, Ind. before a spinout left him on the sidelines at the end. The Valvoline USAC National Sprint Cars join the Midgets for Saturday's Beaver Dam twinbill.

Dave Darland, who trails East by 23 points in the standings, is seeking his third USAC National Midget title in four years and last year won all four legs of the "Buckeye Nationals" Midget dirt-track events in Ohio.

Practice at the 1/3-mile dirt oval starts at 1:30 pm and qualifying begins at 3. The first race is scheduled for 4 pm.

Several drivers are expected to do "double duty" in the twinbill, including Tony Elliott, of Kokomo, Ind., who won USAC's last race at Beaver Dam, a Sprint race in 1998, plus Californian Josh Wise and New Jersey's Tom Hessert.
