Dave Steele of Tampa, Fla. will try for a "sweep" of USAC's Valvoline National Sprint Car races this weekend at Toledo, Ohio and Indianapolis, Ind. after winning Sunday's 20-mile race at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo.

Sunday's feature was shortened from 30 to 20 miles due to afternoon rains and impending darkness and Steele led all 20 laps around the 1-mile paved oval in his Tony Stewart Racing Vital Express/Mopar Beast/Stanton Mopar. Teammate Jay Drake finished second, followed by Michael Lewis, J.J. Yeley and Bobby Santos III.

Steele erased Drake's Sprint Car World qualifying record on Saturday with a lap at 144.980 mph to win the pole for Sunday's race. Drake's 2003 world record speed at PPIR was 144.950.

A 40-lap feature concludes Friday night's "Hemelgarn Racing Night" program at Toledo (Ohio) Speedway, where Drake is the defending champion. A 30-lapper is on tap Saturday night at Indianapolis Raceway Park, which hosts the "AutoZone Super Chevy Show" July 8-11.

Drake continues to enjoy a comfortable point lead in the Valvoline National Sprint Car Series going into this weekend's pair of races.
