Ray wins Mid-Summer Midget Classic; Wise second

Team Mopar young gun Davey Ray picked up a big win Tuesday in USAC National Midget Series competition, holding off fellow Team Mopar driver Josh Wise in the Mid-Summer Midget Classic at Eagle Raceway in Lincoln, Neb.

Ray led all 40 laps of the race in his No. 11 Mopar from Wilke-PAK Motorsports. Wise's Mopar power allowed him to charge back and challenge Ray for the lead late in the race, but took Turn 2 too wide on Lap 38, permitting Ray to cruise to victory.

Wise, who drives for Tony Stewart Racing Enterprises, held onto second, racking up his fourth top-five of the season to solidify his second-place standing in points. Ray is currently ranked fifth.

The USAC Midget teams now travel to the Belleville (Kan.) Highbanks for the prestigious Belleville Nationals Friday and Saturday. Mopar's Wise will defend his 2003 title, which he earned behind the wheel of a Mopar-powered vehicle.

"This [win] definitely brings the whole team's confidence up because we know we're working well together.

"We're definitely looking forward to going to Belleville together, and with Mopar engines and Wilke-PAK supporting me, we'll have 'em tuned up for this weekend and have something to work with."
-- Davey Ray, who captured his second victory of the season yesterday in Nebraska and looks to continue his hot streak in Belleville, Kan., this weekend.
