TEAM LOOKS TO IMPROVE FINISHING POSITION BY ONE AT MILWAUKEE
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- July 18, 2006 -- Peter Shepherd and the Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing team are looking to improve their finishing order by one position this weekend at the Milwaukee Mile. The team finished second at Chicagoland Speedway on July 7th.
"Our No. 199 Ford powered C&R chassis took us to the front and we missed out by one spot but a second place finish is great for everybody, myself and the team," said Shepherd. "I am really excited for this coming weekend. We are right there now and I think that if we keep plugging away we can walk away with a good finish at Milwaukee."
The 2006 Silver Crown season has been a learning experience for the rookie. Team Manager Chris Santucci has worked with the youngster and Shepherd has quickly learned the ins and outs of Silver Crown racing.
"We have not had that first win but we are on the doorstep," said Shepherd. "We are going into Milwaukee with the same attitude that we went into Chicagoland with, have fun and hopefully good things will happen. Maybe we can do one better than Chicago."
With his second place finish at Chicagoland Speedway, Peter Shepherd recorded the best finish by a Canadian in USAC Silver Crown Series history.
SHEPHERD IN HIGH GEAR
Peter Shepherd has not been bored this month. The Canadian has been quite busy racing and testing. In addition to his second place finish at Chicagoland, Shepherd made his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start last weekend for Roush Racing at Memphis Motorsports Park. He also tested an ARCA Re/Max Series car Monday at the Milwaukee Mile.
"I have been racing sometimes two or three days a week now with testing," smiled Shepherd. "The ARCA test will help me get a feel for the Milwaukee Mile before I get on it to race, which is going to be key."
This weekend will mark Shepherd's first start at the Milwaukee Mile.
SHEPHERD SCORES SUCCESSFUL RUN IN FIRST TRUCK START
Peter Shepherd made his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut Saturday at Memphis Motorsports Park. Shepherd and his No. 50 Gridley Headz Board Games Roush Racing team took advantage of the three practice sessions to give Shepherd more track time. The young Canadian responded well and qualified his Ford F-150, 25th his first time out. Peter Shepherd quickly found his rhythm and finished his incident free race, 23rd.
SHARING THE STAGE WITH THE IRL
The USAC Silver Crown Series presented by K&N will again share the stage this weekend with the Indy Racing League. The Silver Crown race is set to start at 10:15am Sunday morning. The IRL IndyCar Series is scheduled to take to the track at 12:45pm.
