Michael Lewis Looks For Win In Iowa Debut
NOBLESVILLE, Indiana (September 15, 2006) - - USAC superstar Michael Lewis heads to the newly built Iowa Speedway looking to take home the trophy as the USAC National Sprint Car Series takes center stage this Sunday apart of a triple header weekend for the USAC Series.
Lewis, hailing from Noblesville, Indiana will make his debut driving the No. 44 Chevrolet for Pace Brothers Racing in the 30-lap feature. With a new team and a new track, the former USAC champion is very excited yet optimistic heading into race weekend.
"I'm very excited to be apart of the Pace Brothers Racing team this weekend," said Lewis, a former NASCAR Busch Series competitor. "It's been a while since I've been behind the wheel, but I am looking forward to the new endeavors that this weekend holds. The Iowa track has received a lot of great reviews and we'll be one of the first open-wheel sanction to compete at it. It's a challenge because you're not sure of setups and car control, but I think we'll be strong, we're looking to sneak away with the win."
Despite being out of the points chase in the USAC National Sprint Car Series, Lewis hopes to his familiar face upfront and in contention. "It's been a while since I've won. I'm used to winning in this series; I just haven't had the best of luck this year, and spent a lot of time on the sidelines regrouping. This is a good team I'm with this weekend and I really think we can pull this off and put our Pace Brothers Construction machine into winner's circle."
With the 2006 racing season beginning to slowly wind down, Lewis is aggressively making plans to return to the full circuit in 2007. "I miss racing full time," he said. "This is my life. The USAC Series has been great for my career and me. Sure, I may have an opportunity to compete in another series, but this is my home and I'm making every effort to be back here full time next year."
Following this weekend's venue at Iowa, Lewis will return to competition at Eldora Speedway on September 22.
