Neely Returns to Richmond International Raceway to do the Double

ROBINSON, Ill. (June 27, 2007) -- Mat Neely, of Robinson, Ill., returns to Richmond International Raceway this Friday and Saturday to compete in both the United States Auto Club (USAC) National Silver Crown and National Sprint Car divisions.

Competing in the Silver Crown division for the Rotondo Weirich Motorsports (RWMS) team, Neely is in the middle of his first full-time season on the tour. Sitting ninth in the points standings, the 2006 Rookie of the Year and Four Crown Nationals champion knows that he needs to start moving towards the front to climb higher in the points.

"Steve (Weirich, team owner) has put out a lot of money to put a two car team on the Silver Crown tour," commented Neely. "Now, it's our job to put him back in victory lane. We have the equipment and manpower, and now we need to make it happen."

Neely is the pilot of the RW Motorsports, C&R Racing, HG Associates Chevy-powered Silver Crown machine.

Taking the track in the USAC Sprint Car division, Neely is coming off of his best-ever pavement finish in the Claxton Racing Engines-powered Beast Chassis, which he credits in large part, to veteran mechanic Keith Kunz.

"Having Keith take over the maintenance and preparation, along with the trackside duties, of our pavement program has helped us out more than I ever thought it would," said Neely. "I have never felt as confident and comfortable in a pavement sprint car as I did at ORP (O'Reilly Raceway Park), and I credit that to Keith and his guys."

Sitting right behind Silver Crown teammate Jerry Coons, Jr. in the National Sprint Car points race, Neely is hoping for a solid run at Richmond this weekend.

"Our pavement program was struggling, and now with Keith on board, my goal is a podium finish at RIR," finished Neely.

With support from the First Financial Bank of Terre Haute, Street Heat, Lytle Electric, Maverick Energy, Ross Body Shop, Rotondo Weirich and R&B Powder Coating, Mat Neely Motorsports travels full-time on the USAC Lucas Oil Products National Sprint Car Tour.
