PIERCE SCORES POLE FOR KANSASSPEEDWAY.COM 100
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Aaron Pierce scored his third career USAC Silver Crown Series presented by K&N Engineering pole - all of which have come this season - Friday morning at Kansas Speedway, recording a lap of 167.203 mph (32.296 seconds).
Using the same setup he utilitzed at in the USG Fiberock 100" in July at Chicagoland Speedway - a track in which he also scored the pole and won his first career series race - Pierce topped Pablo Donoso in the final moments of qualifying, after the pair switched positions from the hour-and- a-half morning practice. Donoso was fastest in that session.
"The car was really stable," said Pierce, driving the No. 26 Sam Pierce Chevrolet/Fatheadz Riley/Chevy. "We had the same setup as Chicagoland, and it worked without any problems. It would be really good to get a victory here in the last race. We've tested fast and led a few times before falling out with mechanical problems, so it'll be really nice to come out of here with a victory."
With Pierce setting quick time and taking the three bonus points that goes with the achievement, point leader Bud Kaeding only needs to finish seventh in Saturday's "KansasSpeedway.com 100" at the 1.5-mile track. Kaeding was third fastest - 166.857 mph - while his only other title challenger - Brian Tyler - was 11th fastest, clocking in at 161.358 mph.
Saturday's 67-lap, 100-mile race will start following the conclusion of the NASCAR Busch Series race.
