NORTH VERNON, IN (September 15) -- Kasey Kahne led nine laps, but finished second behind Jay Drake in Friday's USAC Regional Dirt Track Midget Car Series finale at Twin Cities Raceway Park. "We had an alright race with him, but he was a lot faster than we were," Kahne said. "We were trying some different shocks. It was the first time we tried them on dirt. We haven't run many of the regional races this year. We were just there to try some things out." Kahne drove Steve Lewis' #91 midget in only half of the six races, but managed to finish fifth in the standings, only six points behind A.J. Felker. He finished seventh at Kokomo Speedway July 9th, third in the 49th Annual "Hut 100" at Lincoln Park Speedway September 2nd and second Friday. Kahne was the fifth-fastest qualifier and followed Drake under the checkered flag in the First Heat Race and the 30-lap main event. Kahne took the lead during the first lap, only to have Drake pass him the next time around. Kahne regained first place seven laps later, but Drake took the lead for good during lap 17. "It was a good race, but he was just fast," Kahne said. "He just passed me when he caught me. We could able to keep up, but I couldn't pass him back." Kahne will be back in action Saturday in an MCI WorldCom Midget Car Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park. ESPN2 will tape the event for a September 24th telecast starting at 10:30 p.m. (EDT). Kahne leads Drake by 234 points five races remaining on the schedule. "We expect to be a lot better tonight," Kahne said.
