BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 18) -- Kasey Kahne maintained his advantage in the National Midget Driver standings Saturday with a second-place finish in the USAC/MCI WorldCom National Midget Car race at Bakersfield Speedway.

Jay Drake, who is chasing Kahne in the Arizona Sport Shirts- sponsored points race, passed the series champion during the 16th lap en route to his ninth midget victory of the year. Drake has run 29 races, while Kahne also has nine victories while racing in 26 events.

Kahne's 12.715-second lap was the fastest at Bakersfield. He also won the first heat race and led the first 15 laps in the 50-lap feature. Kahne was 51 points ahead of Drake entering Saturday's race. He holds insurmountable 219-point lead in the USAC standings.

Kahne and Drake will go head-to-head with 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup Rookie of the Year Tony Stewart in the 60th Annual Home Depot Turkey Night Grand Prix Thanksgiving at Irwindale Speedway. Kahne and Stewart will be two of the four drivers piloting Steve Lewis-owned cars in USAC's 2000 season finale.

Thursday's Irwindale event gets under way with practice at 3 p.m. Qualifying starts at 4 p.m. and the first race is scheduled for 7 p.m. A 20-lap TQ Midget Car feature is planned on the 1/3-mile paved oval prior to the 100-lap midget feature on the track's 1/2-mile oval.

ESPN2 will televise Thursday's Irwindale race at 9:30 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
