Injured USAC Sprint Car Driver Jimmy Weller III Begins Physical Therapy

CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 9, 2004) - Jimmy Weller III, injured in a USAC sprint car event at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway on Wednesday night, Oct. 13, has been moved from Carolinas Medical Center to the Charlotte Institute of Rehabilitation and has begun physical therapy.

Weller, 18, of Liberty, Ohio, suffered severe head trauma in the accident along with two cracked vertebrae which required surgery.

Weller's father reports his son's condition continues to improve and family members are encouraged by the early results of the physical therapy. After being heavily sedated for several weeks, Weller is now able to sit up and converse.

The Charlotte Institute of Rehabilitation, part of the Carolinas HealthCare System, is one of the largest and most comprehensive freestanding facilities of its kind in the Southeast.
