SHEPHERD RECORDS SECOND PODIUM OF THE SEASON

NEWTON, Iowa -- September 17, 2006 -- Peter Shepherd and the Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing team recorded another podium finish Sunday at Iowa Speedway. It was Shepherd's second podium finish of his rookie season and the team's third of the year. Peter Shepherd rejoined the team after two months out of the seat of the No. 199, driving for Roush Racing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. The young Canadian quickly shook off the rust turning laps in qualifying good for 10th quick. When race day rolled around, Shepherd and the team were confident that they could move forward. On lap 61, teams were noticing tire wear on their competitor's cars from the brand new surface at Iowa Speedway. Shepherd and the team had made it a point to conserve their tires.

"Tire management seems to be the key at every race so if I can take care of them at the beginning then we will be there at the end and we definitely did," said Shepherd.

Peter Shepherd was able to pass cars and get up front for the final laps. The last laps of the race saw the No. 199 Ford powered C&R chassis in a three way battle for second, third and fourth. Shepherd powered his way to finish third.

"Our Ed Pink Ford engine would come off the corners fast for us," smiled Shepherd. "It felt like we had more horsepower than anyone else. Unfortunately we would get a good run and the guys would come off the corners and kind of bind us down. We were in a good battle there. It feels good to finish with a top three."

The top three was Shepherd's second best finish of his young Silver Crown career. The Canadian says part of the reason for his success is the hard work of his crew.

"I have got to thank everyone so much for the opportunity," said Shepherd. "The Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing team gave me a good car and I knew I had a good car since or first practice session. We are looking for that first win and we have one more race for that hopefully. I definitely think that this team will be in contention for it at Kansas."
