Silver Bullet Series Heads to Knoxville for Napa "Hawkeye Hundred"

Rain forced back-to-back postponements of A.J. Foyt's True Value "Hulman Hundred" at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis May 25 and 26 and the race has now been rescheduled for Friday night, September 28.

The race, now scheduled as the final event in the Coors Light Silver Bullet Series, now becomes part of the festivities of SAP United States Grand Prix weekend in the speed capital. The G.P. is scheduled for Sunday, September 30 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Coors Light Silver Bullet Series now gears up for this weekend's NAPA "Hawkeye Hundred" at the Knoxville (Ia.) Raceway. A 100-mile feature event is scheduled at 9:30 Saturday night, following warmups at 8:15 pm.

Knoxville's 1/2-mile dirt oval will also host Friday activity, with Silver Bullet practice from 6:30-7 pm and qualifying at 7:30. A 20-lap "qualifying race" to finalize the starting field is slated at 9:30 Friday. News media are also expected to attend a special non-sanctioned open practice session on Thursday night from 7-10 pm.

Jay Drake of Val Verde, Calif. returns as the defending race champion, while Russ Gamester of Peru, Ind. enters the race as the series point leader after back-to-back victories at Irwindale, Calif. and Nazareth, Pa. Drivers will be aiming at Joe Saldana's qualifying record of 21.359 seconds and Rich Vogler's 100-mile race record of 42:58.60, both established in 1981.

In addition to USAC Champions like Tracy Hines (Silver Bullet), Tony Elliott (Sprint Cars) and Kasey Kahne (National Midget Cars), the race also showcases local talent Jon Agan (Knoxville) and Terry Thorson (Newton), as well as A.J. Fike of Galesburg, Ill.

Jerry Coons, Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. will drive the KELE "Spirit of Knoxville" entry in Saturday night's race. <pre> USAC COORS LIGHT SILVER BULLET SERIES STANDINGS
