Cory Kruseman of Ventura, Calif. captured Saturday night's "Jan Opperman Classic" at the Terre Haute Action Track and emerged as the champion of the 2002 Valvoline "Indiana Sprint Week" as Sunday night's Kokomo Speedway finale was rained out. Kruseman finished with a 33-point cushion over J.J. Yeley, the series runner-up.

Kruseman, who won the first three races in the scheduled eight-race series, closed out the series with a first, fifth, seventh and eighth in the final four events.

Yeley, of Phoenix, Ariz., won Monday night's 30-lap "Dick Gaines Classic" at Twin Cities Raceway Park in North Vernon, Ind., leading the final nine laps in his ABC Sand & Rock/Red Line Oil RPM/Twister after passing early leader Eric Shively. Shively finished second ahead of Jon Stanbrough, Levi Jones and Jonathan Vennard.

Briscoe, of Mitchell, Ind., recorded back-to-back victories in the "Robbie Stanley Classic" at Lawrenceburg Speedway Thursday and the "Larry Rice Classic" at Bloomington Speedway Friday in his Hoosier/AFCO Shocks Kriner/Stealth. Yeley, Tracy Hines, Dave Darland and Kruseman rounded out the "top five" at Lawrenceburg, while A.J. Anderson, Kevin Thomas, Yeley and Derek Scheffel completed the "top-five" at Bloomington. Dick Gaines led the first six laps at Lawrenceburg before yielding to Briscoe and Hines and Yeley led early laps at Bloomington before Briscoe took over on lap eight.

Kruseman and his Stanton Racing Engines/American Race Tires Mopar/Kunz passed Jonathan Vennard on lap two at Terre Haute and led the rest of the way to beat Hines, Jay Drake, Tony Elliott and Yeley.

Jack Hewitt of Troy, Ohio flipped during the semi at North Vernon Monday night and remains in "stable" condition at Indianapolis' Methodist Hospital following five hours of neck surgery performed Friday. Jack's spirits are high and doctors are optimistic regarding Jack's response to the surgery.

Turbines, Inc. fast qualifiers during the final "Indiana Sprint Week" events were Tracy Hines at North Vernon, Yeley at Lawrenceburg and Bloomington and Jerry Coons, Jr. at Terre Haute.
