R.E. TECHNOLOGIES RACING IN TIGHT POINTS RACE HEADED INTO SPRINGFIELD
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- August 17, 2007 -- Cameron Dodson and the Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing team face new challenges this weekend at the 47th Tony Bettenhausen 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill. Saturday.
This weekend will mark Cameron Dodson's first USAC K & N Silver Crown Championship Series start on dirt. The Indiana native has raced many times in a winged, non-winged sprint and midget car on dirt but never in a Silver Crown0x2122 car. The calm driver will have a 9am practice session Saturday morning to get used to the No. 199 Ford sponsored Hoosier, Redline Oil, DynoTech Engines, R.E. Technologies Chassis. The USAC Silver Crown rookie will be in good hands as team manager Chris Santucci, Robert Hubbard and Robert Gant have had success at the Springfield mile before.
In 2004, the team captured the pole at Springfield and finished 3rd. The R.E. Technologies chassis that Dodson will drive this weekend was the same chassis that the team won with at the season opener at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz. in January. This weekend's race in Illinois' capital city is the series second dirt race of the season and the 9th of 14 scheduled races in 2007. The series will move to the historic dirt oval at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds on September 2nd.
POINTS RACE TIGHTENS
As the season has progressed, the USAC Silver Crown drivers and owners points races have tightened. Heading into Springfield, Cameron Dodson trails 2006 series champion Bud Kaeding by three points and current series points leader Wayne Reutiman Jr. by ten. Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing has an 11 point lead over the AJ Foyt owned No. 14 team in the owners points. USAC Silver Crown qualifying is scheduled for 10:25am Saturday and the 47th Tony Bettenhausen 100 is scheduled to start at 1:30pm.
