CAROLINA FOCUSES RESUME AT CONCORD; ANDERSON & VENTURA ALSO HOST EVENTS; POSEY, NEWBERRY NOTCH 2008 FIRSTS!
The USAC Carolina Ford Focus Midgets presented by the Richard Petty Driving Experience resume their 2008 season Wednesday night at Concord (N.C.) Motorsports Park, while the Indiana Ford Focus Series convenes for a race Wednesday night at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway. Ventura Raceway hosts Saturday night's California Dirt and Junior Ford Focus races.
Michael Mohelski of Frederick, Md. (Carolina), Kyle Hamilton of Danville, Ind. (Indiana), Alex Bowman of Tucson, Ariz. (California Dirt) and Charlie Butcher of Santa Barbara, Calif. (Junior Focus) are the point leaders entering this week's racing.
Brennan Newberry of Bakersfield, Calif. and Kipp Posey of Lehi, Utah scored Ford Focus wins over the Independence Day weekend. Newberry won Thursday night's 30-lap California Paved/Utah Developmental feature at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway Bullring, leading all but the first laps after passing Ian Miille on lap two. Brendan Langlois, Alex Bowman, Mille and Justin Hommel trailed at the checkered flag. Posey won Saturday's 25-lap Utah Developmental race at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, leading the last 12 laps after passing James Powell on lap 14. Powell took second ahead of Jim Waters, 2007 champ Tim Savage and Bob Brewer.
Sunday night's originally-scheduled USAC/UMARA Ford Focus race at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill. was cancelled due to scheduling conflicts.
The next events in the USAC/UMARA and Utah Developmental series are July 19 at Morris, Ill. (USAC/UMARA) and July 26 at Salt Lake City (Utah).
