FOCUS RACING AT VENTURA, SALT LAKE CITY & ANDERSON; BOWMAN #1 AT IRWINDALE, SWANSON TOPS IN JUNIOR FOCUSES
USAC Ford Focus racing occurs on three fronts this week, including Wednesday's "Open Wheel Racing Extravaganza" at Anderson, Ind. and Saturday at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah and at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway.
Wednesday's events at Anderson include the Regional, Kenyon and Miwest/Indiana Ford Focus series, while the California Dirt Ford Focus and Junior Ford Focus Series compete at Ventura's 1/5-mile dirt track. The Utah Developmental Series competes at Salt Lake City Saturday.
Walt Johnson of Burbank, Calif. leads the California Dirt standings, while Charlie Butcher of Santa Barbara, Calif. leads the Junior focuses. James Robertson was the 2007 Midwest Focus Champ, Chett Gehrke of Broken Arrow, Okla. won last year's Indiana Ford Focus title and Tim Savage of Herriman, Utah is the defending Utah Developmental Ford Focus Champion.
Alex Bowman of Tucson, Ariz. scored his second consecutive USAC California Pavement Ford Focus feature victory Saturday night at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. He passed Brendan Langlois on lap six and led the rest of the way to win the 35-lapper over Langlois, Brennan Newberry, Justin Hommel and Zach Stout. Ian Miille was the night's fastest qualifier. The next California Pavement Ford Focus race is May 31 at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif.
Jake Swanson of Anaheim, Calif. won Saturday night's 20-lap Junior Ford Focus feature at Ventura, leading the final five laps after passing Harris Brooks on lap 16.
