FOCUSES AT LAS VEGAS & DILLON, S.C. SATURDAY; HOMMEL GETS WIN #2 IN SALT LAKE CITY OPENER

The Carolina USAC Ford Focus Series kicks off its 2008 campaign Saturday night at Dillon Motor Speedway in Dillon, S.C. The USAC California Pavement and Auto Trader Utah Developmental series visits the Bullring at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway, also Saturday night.

Justin Hommel of Canyon Lake, Calif. earned his second USAC Ford Focus feature triumph Saturday night at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah, leading all 30 laps to win the California Pavement/Auto Trader Utah Developmental main event. Billy Cox was second, followed by Jeff Kelley, Chuck Groat and fast qualifier Kipp Posey.

Hommel leads the California Pavement standings going into this Saturday's Las Vegas event, while Cox is the Utah point leader going into the Las Vegas race.

Tanner Swanson won last year's Carolina Ford Focus title. Tim Skoglund and Michael Faccinto won last year's LVMS Ford Focus features.

USAC Junior Ford Focus Series point leader Charlie Butcher won Saturday night's 20-lap race at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. The series resumes at the 1/5-mile dirt oval May 10.
