Tracks in Tracy, Calif., Chemung, New York, Morris, Ill. and Plymouth, Ind. are preparing for USAC Ford Focus Midget races this week as the busy 2007 season continues at a hectic pace.
Wednesday's USAC racing program at Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway honoring 50 years of motorsports involvement for Hoosier Racing Tires and Bob & Joyce Newton, includes the Midwest and Indiana Focus series as part of the "tripleheader." Grundy County Speedway in Morris hosts the Midwest and USAC/UMARA Focuses Saturday, while the Northeast series is at the Chemung Speedrome and the California Pavement Series visits Altamont Raceway Park in Tracy.
Respective point leaders entering this week's action are Chett Gehrke (Midwest and Indiana), Jeff Abold (Northeast), Nic Faas (California Pavement) and Mario Clouser (USAC/UMARA).
Gehrke, of Broken Arrow, Okla., won twice last week. He and his Indy Performance Composites/Scooter Ellis Rentals Beast led all 30 laps to take Wednesday's Indiana Series race at Mount Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Ind. On Friday he led the final eight laps to take the Midwest 20-lapper at Gas City (Ind.) I-69 Speedway. Trailing at New Castle were Tyler Irwin, Eric Fehrman, Robby Parish and Alison MacLeod. At Gas City, Bill Griffith led the first eight laps but faded to eighth at the end. Parish was second ahead of MacLeod, Craig Haack and Ronnie Wuerdeman.
Mark Burt of DeBary, Fla. led all but the opening lap to win Saturday's Carolina Focus feature at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, N.C. Michael Mohelski led the first laps and finished second ahead of Michael Sboro, Caitlin Shaw and Scott Hunter. The series is presented by the Richard Petty Driving Experience.
Robby Josett of Santa Clarita, Calif. won Saturday's 20-lap California Dirt focus feature at Ventura Raceway. He passed Nic Faas on the white-flag lap and led to the finish to beat Nick Carlson, Faas, Ricky Kirkbride and Dennis Howell. Carlson led the first 17 laps before Faas and Josett provided the late dramatics.
Saturday's 15-lap USAC/UMARA Focus race at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill. went to Mario Clouser of Auburn, Ill, who led all 15 laps to beat Mark Wacher and Sara Hyslop.
Tim Savage of Herriman, Utah scored his fourth consecutive victory in the Utah Developmental Focus Series Saturday, leading the final 11 laps at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City. Billy Cox, Jeff Kelley, Bob Brewer and Trevor Miran completed the "top-five." Feature leaders also included Cox and James Powell.
