Martz 1st at Anderson; Speedrome Rained Out
Focuses Face 4 Dates, But Independence Canceled

Tate Martz of Rushville, Ind. climbed to third in the USAC Midwest Ford Focus Midget Car standings after winning Wednesday night's 25-lap feature at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway. He caught Canadian driver Ryan Litt on lap 14 and led the rest of the way on the 1/4-mile paved oval in his Greg Steele Duffy-Warble Beast. Trenton Darland led the first eight laps and Litt led the next five.

Martz will be among favorites for victory when the Midwest series joins the Valvoline USAC Sprint Cars for this Friday night's Advance Auto Parts USAC "doubleheader" presented by Papa Johns at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Featuring the Valvoline National Sprint cars and Midwest Ford Focus Midgets, action will take place on both the 1/4-mile and 1/2-mile paved ovals.

The Sprinters compete on the big track, with a 40-lap main event, while the Focuses are slated on the smaller track with a 30-lap feature. Practice begins at 6 pm and is followed by qualifying at 7 and racing at 8.

Litt finished second at Anderson, ahead of Darland, Robbie Ray and Brad Loyet. Darland won a "special event" Focus feature at the 1/4-mile paved Cedar Rapids oval last year. Litt leads Rex Norris III by 42 points in the new Midwest standings going into the Cedar Rapids event.

Rain forced cancellation of the "Open Wheel Wednesday" event presented by Traderindiana.com & Wheels & Deals at the Blossom Chevrolet Indianapolis Speedrome and that track hosts this Wednesday night's continuation of the USAC "tripleheaders" featuring the Ford Focus Midgets, Regional Midgets and Kenyon Midgets. A 50-lap feature is on tap for each series.

Bradley Galedrige leads the California Ford Focus North Series to this Saturday night's racing program with the USAC Western Midgets at the Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway.

Chris Rahe is the leader in the Carolina/Virginia Focus series presented by Calico Coatings going into this Friday and Saturday's races at Elkin, N.C. and South Boston, Va. A 25-lapper is slated at the 4/10-mile Friendship Motor Speedway in Elkin Friday, while a 30-lapper is on tap at the 4/10-mile paved South Boston Speedway Saturday.

This Saturday night's scheduled USAC Midwest Ford Focus Midget Car race at Independence (Iowa) Motor Speedway has been canceled.
