"HENRY FORD SWEEPSTAKES TROPHY" UP FOR GRABS IN SATURDAY'S NATIONAL FORD FOCUS RACE AT LVMS' BULLRING

The 2010 USAC National Ford Focus championship will be contested this Saturday at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway Bullring and pre-entries indicated a strong contingent of Western and Midwestern talent will vie for the crown.

Midwest Pavement Champion Jake Blackhurst of Mapleton, Ill. will challenge Western Ford Focus Pavement leader Cody Gerhardt of Madera, Calif., Utah champion Michael Daniels of Magna, Utah and Western Focus Young Guns Pavement leader Brandon White of Eureka, Calif. in the race, with the winner's name targeted for inscription on the Henry Ford Sweepstakes Trophy and the winner invited to the December 3 USAC "Night of Champions" National Awards Banquet in Indianapolis, Ind.

Pre-entries already include drivers from California, Utah, Oregon, Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina and Virginia.

The program will also feature Western Focus Young Guns racing and will actually offer points toward eight additional championships, the Western, Western Pavement, Northern California and Southern California titles, in both the Ford Focus and Focus Young Guns series.

Tech inspection and "test and tune" opportunities are available at LVMS on Thursday and Friday, with practice commencing at 11:15 am Saturday. Qualifying is set for 1:20 pm and races start at 3 pm. A pair of "qualifying races" are scheduled prior to the 35-lap National Championship finale.
