4 "REGIONAL" FEATURES ON TAP WEDNESDAY AT ILLIANA; YOUNG, HAMILTON, CHARLSON STAR AT MOUNT LAWN
This Wednesday night's USAC "Regional" racing program at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Ind. features four different racing series, including a new pilot program Regional Sprint Car event.
The Regional Midgets and Sprints will compete in 30-lap races on the track's big 1/ 2-mile paved oval, while the smaller 1/4-mile oval will be utilized for 30-lappers for the Kenyon and Midwest/Indiana/UMARA Ford Focus Midgets.
Wednesday night's events are the first for USAC at Illiana since 2001 when Jason McCord won a National Sprint car feature.
Travis Young of Franklin, Ind., Kyle Hamilton of Plainfield, Ind. and Drew Charlson of New Bremen, Ohio scored feature victories in Thursday night's USAC regional "tripleheader" program at Mount Lawn Speedway. Young won the 30-lap Regional Midget race, while Hamilton won the 30-lap Indiana Ford Focus feature and Charlson won the 30-lap Kenyon Midget race.
Young trailed James Robertson for 17 laps, then led the final 13 laps in his BG Products Beast/Esslinger Ford to beat Robertson, Alison MacLeod, Zach Daum and Dakoda Armstrong. Hamilton followed Eric Fehrman for 14 laps, then paced the last 16 laps in his Curtis Motor Sales Beast/Ford Focus to beat Auston Harris, Steven Mathews, Julia Landauer and Katie Hargitt. In the Kenyon main, Charlson led the final eight laps in his Century 21 Mid-America Properties/Aluma Trailer Kenyon/Yamaha to beat Jeff Wimmenauer, Dalton Armstrong, Tyler Cottongim and Caleb Armstrong. Thompson led laps 1-4 and Dalton Armstrong led the next 18.
