Chris Rahe of Placentia, Calif. extended his lead in the California Ford Focus South standings Saturday night, leading the final 10 laps to win the 20-lap race at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. Rahe hopes to repeat that win when the series ventures to Ventura (Calif.) Raceway this Saturday night in conjunction with the Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Cars.
Rahe passed Bobby Michnowicz on the 11th lap at Perris and led the rest of the way in his Penelite Engineering/JMI Stealth. He was followed by Michnowicz, Ryan Pace, Cal Smith and Eric Pace. Josh Lakatos led the opening lap before yielding to Michnowicz.
USAC Ford Focus Midget racing occurs in five different states this weekend, beginning with Friday night's 30-lap Midwest race at the Gas City (IN) I-69 Speedway. The race is a hold-over from a pair of earlier rainouts and is expected to start at about 7:30 pm. The Midwest Series continues with a 30-lapper at Red Hill Raceway in Sumner, Ill. on Saturday night. Tate Martz holds a 47-point lead over Rex Norris III entrering the two races.
The Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus Series, presented by Calico Coatings, continues Saturday night and Monday afternoon respectively at South Boston, Va. and Hickory, N.C. A 25-lap Lucas Oil Challenge feature is scheduled Friday at South Boston Speedway and a pair of Real Race Cars, Inc. Inversion Challenge 25-lappers are on tap Sunday at Hickory Motor Speedway. The Hickory program has racing at 3 pm and the second of the two features is a non-points special event. The California South Series visits the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway as mentioned earlier.
