Todd Hunsaker of Chino Hills, Calif. opens defense of his USAC Ford Focus Midget Car Championship Saturday night in the opening race of USAC's 2003 racing season at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.

Hunsaker scored five feature victories in 2002 but none came at the 1/2-mile dirt Perris oval where he finished second, fourth and fifth in three starts. Last year's USAC Ford Focus races at Perris were captured by Phil Goodwine, Garrett Hansen and J.J. Ercse.

A 20-lap feature caps Saturday's Ford Focus program at Perris. Among expected drivers are two females, Heather Calderwood-Davis of Bakersfield, Calif. and Ashley Walker of Murrieta, Calif. Mrs. Calderwood-Davis is the wife of Steve Davis, who is also expected to compete.

The originally-slated Ford Focus opener at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway last Saturday night was cancelled due to rain.
