TULSA'S RANDOLPH PROCLAIMED INAUGURAL USAC OKLAHOMA FORD FOCUS MIDGET CHAMPION
INDIANAPOLIS -- Jasiel Randolph of Tulsa, Okla. was proclaimed Thursday the inaugural champion of the USAC Oklahoma Ford Focus Midget Car Series by the sanctioning body.
Randolph, a former Oklahoma mini-Sprint Nationals champion, made all five races on the Oklahoma schedule and, despite not winning any of the series' points races, never finished worse than fourth during the campaign. Randolph 's final margin over Dustin Morgan in the points standings stood at two following Saturday's finale at Tulsa Speedway. Morgan finished second while Randolph finished third. Tulsa's Evan Sewell won Saturday's 15-lap feature.
Randolph, who drove the No. 22 Piranha Motorsports/First Tulsa Auto Outlet Stealth/Ford Focus to the title, now sets his sights on being the inaugural winner of the Ford Focus National championship, scheduled to take place Sept. 17 at Limaland Motorsports Park in Ohio and Sept. 18 at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.
Randolph is one of 41 drivers entered to take part in the two-race invitational championship. He has one start at Anderson, which came earlier this season in a Midwest points-paying race. His best Ford Focus pavement finish came May 26 at the Blossom Chevrolet Indianapolis Speedrome, where he finished sixth.
