MARTZ, ROBERTSON CONTINUE MIDWEST BATTLE THIS WEEKEND; MAIN NOTCHES FIRST WIN

INDIANAPOLIS -- The ongoing battle between two-time Ford Focus champion Tate Martz and title hopeful and contender James Robertson continues twice this weekend, with races scheduled Friday and Saturday in Michigan.

Martz, of Rushville, Ind., brings a 20-point advantage over Robertson into Friday's Midwest Ford Focus Pavement Midget Car Series race at Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Mich., with a 25-lapper scheduled. Drivers will continue their swing thru Michigan with another 25-lap race scheduled Saturday at Berlin Raceway in Marne.

The races are imperative to both drivers' title chases in Pavement competition, as only one race -- the Oct. 7-8 race at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway -- remains after this weekend.

Martz stayed in contention for the title in Dirt action last Friday at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., finishing second to Tony Main, who earned his initial USAC feature win on the quarter-mile clay oval. Main, of Farmland, Ind., surpassed Martz on Lap 9 of 30, then held him off in the No. 03 mount.

Trailing Martz were point leader Jordan Noblitt, defending National champion Robbie Ray and Ronnie Wuerdeman. Noblitt owns a four-point cushion over Martz in the latest standings.
