BERLIN WIN WIDENS MARTZ POINT LEAD HEADING INTO SATURDAY'S RACE AT MANSFIELD

INDIANAPOLIS -- Tate Martz of Rushville, Ind. is quickly closing on a repeat USAC Midwest Ford Focus Midget Car Series championship. With a victory in Saturday's race at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich., Martz holds a 124-point margin over Stephanie Mockler with this Saturday's race at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway next on the schedule.

Martz claimed season victory No. 6 on the .438-mile paved Michigan track, leading the final 17 laps in the No. 1 Lafayette Emergency Medicine Physicians Beast. Ricky Ehrgott, who led the opening eight laps of the 25-lap feature, finished second, ahead of Brandon Wagner, James Robertson and Kyle Robbins. Martz also visited Victory Lane after his heat race and paced the field in qualifying.

Mockler, looking for a second straight victory and trying desperately to cut into Martz's points lead, flipped during practice after hitting the wall, yet made necessary repairs and finished sixth in the feature.

Saturday's race at Mansfield will be contested on the 1/3-mile track located on the inside of the half-mile. It will be the first visit for the series to the track. <pre> MIDWEST FORD FOCUS MIDGET CAR SERIES STANDINGS 1. Tate Martz 914 2. Stephanie Mockler 790 3. James Robertson 635 4. Josh Clemons 592 5.
