MOCKLER WINS MANSFIELD REGIONAL RACE; FOCUS, KENYON CARS BEGIN SEASONS WEDNESDAY

INDIANAPOLIS -- Stephanie Mockler kicked off the 2006 USAC Regional Midget Car Series schedule Saturday with a victory at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway, and will lead the series into the Wednesday's race at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.

Mockler's victory in the 25-lap season opener -- co-sanctioned with the Wolverine Outlaw Winged Midget Series -- came in the No. 6 East Enterprises Beast/Ford, as she led the final five laps of the race to beat Tom Hessert III and Scott Thoman to the stripe. Hessert and Dan Drinan also took turns in the lead.

Mockler leads Thoman by five points heading into the Wednesday's Anderson Regional race. The Regional gang will also be in action Sunday at Columbus Motor Speedway in Ohio.

The Mansfield feature was the first of 21 races on the Regional Midget Car Series calendar. Wednesday's event starts "Wednesday Night Thunder" for the Regional Midgets, which will share a tripleheader card with the USAC Indiana Ford Focus and Kenyon Midget Car Series divisions. All three will be in action Wednesday at Anderson, the first of 16 tripleheaders. Mt. Lawn Speedway in New Castle and South Bend Motor Speedway will also host "Wednesday Night Thunder" tripleheaders.

Hoosiers Jamie Williams of Columbus and Jonathan Hendrick of McCordsville are the reigning champions of each division of the regional Ford Focus and Kenyon divisions, which were held in 2005 at the Indianapolis Speedrome.
