USAC Indiana Ford Focus Midget Car Series debuts April 6.
The Anderson (Ind.) Speedway will host the inaugural event in the Indiana USAC Ford Focus Midget Car Series April 6 as part of the 2003 "Glen Niebel Classic" at the 1/4-mile paved oval. The Niebel program, now in its third year, also features the USAC Stoops Freightliner Sprint Cars and National Midget Cars and honors the memory of the late USAC car owner who helped make Tony Stewart's 1995 "Triple Crown" Championship a reality.
The Anderson race will kick off a 2003 Indiana USAC Ford Focus Midget Car Series schedule which will include tracks like Baer Field Speedway in Fort Wayne, Gas City I-69 Speedway and Angola Motor Speedway, while additional tracks like Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio have also expressed interest in hosting USAC Ford Focus Midget Series events during the coming year.
"We are confident that we will have a full schedule of 20 Indiana USAC Ford Focus Midget Car Series races in 2003," states Eric Bunn, USAC's National Coordinator for the Ford Focus Midget Series. "Interest continues to grow daily from car owners and drivers looking to race our Focus Midgets. The interest encompassed the entire spectrum of the sport, including participants from quarter-midgets, go-karts, dirt modifieds, legend cars, various SCCA open-wheel classes and, of course, people who have raced other forms of Midgets here in Indiana. They are all attracted by the affordability of the Ford Focus engine package and the USAC name."
Hoosier Racing Tires of Lakeville, Ind. has announced it will supply "USAC Focus" branded tires to series participants for use on both paved and dirt ovals. The "spec" right rear tire will sell for $99 and the left rear will be priced at $89.
"The USAC Focus tire is a perfecty fit in Hoosier's line of open-wheel racing tires," said Irish Saunders, Hoosier's manager of contract tire sales. "Supplying a safe and affordable tire to USAC Ford Focus competitors is part of Hoosier Tire's commitment to the growth of open-wheel racing."
The Indiana USAC Ford Focus Midget Car Series follows hot on the heels of the 2002 USAC Ford Focus Midget Car Series presented by the Southern California Ford Dealers on the west coast as an affordable venue for entry-level open-wheel competitors.
The 2003 series schedule is being finalized and is expected to be released soon.
