CALIFORNIA PAVEMENT FOCUS SERIES POINTS RACE TIGHTENS AFTER MEIER WINS IRWINDALE

INDIANAPOLIS -- Five drivers could still come out ahead in the 2005 edition of the USAC California Ford Focus Midget Car Series title chase following Saturday's penultimate event at Irwindale, Calif., won by Jace Meier.

The 16-year-old Meier, who hails from Las Vegas, Nev., took the 35-lapper on the shorter Irwindale track, leading the final nine laps after taking the lead from Chris Veach on Lap 27. Meier, who set the evening's fast time, finished ahead of Veach, Audra Sasselli, Lindsay Kernohan and Alex Harris.

Harris, who enjoyed a 12-point advantage heading into the evening, is now a slim six points ahead of Sasselli heading into the "Turkey Night Grand Prix" finale Nov. 24 at Irwindale. Harris looks to add the championship to his previously won USAC TQ Midget championships, while Sasselli looks to top a USAC points race for the first time.

Chase Barber, who on Oct. 1 clinched the California Dirt championship, sits 24 points out of the lead. Also still with title aspirations are Robbie Whitchurch and Benny Moon. Each of the Top 5 in points has claimed a feature victory this season.
