CAROLINA/VIRGINIA FOCUSES HEAD NORTH TO KENTUCKY; RAY NOW TIED FOR MOST CAREER FOCUS WINS

The USAC Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus Midget Car Series will leave the confines of the South this Saturday for a 20-lap feature at Kentucky Speedway, which also hosts ARCA and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

The Carolina/Virginia Series is coming off a Monday morning event at Friendship Motor Speedway in Elkin, N.C., which was delayed a day after inclement weather postponed Sunday's feature after qualifying. Robbie Ray of Davenport, Iowa won Monday's 30-lap feature, leading all but the opening two laps in the No. 11 Calico Coatings/Simpson Beast/Ford Focus. It was his 13th career Focus victory -- which ties him with 2003 California North champion Josh Lakatos and defending Midwest Focus titlist Tate Martz -- and fifth Focus win in 2005.

Ray beat Michael Sboro, who led the first two laps, to the stripe. Series points leader Chase Scott -- who with 12 Focus victories trails Ray, Martz and Lakatos by one -- finished third, ahead of Mike Ward and Aron Oakley.

Scott leads Ray by 12 points heading to Kentucky's race, which will take place on the quarter-mile. Both drivers have three Carolina/Virginia victories this season.

The event will award points to both the Carolina/Virginia and Midwest regions. Josh Clemons of Greenfield, Ind. won the combined race last year, which attracted 38 cars -- a record for one Focus race. <pre> CAROLINA/VIRGINIA FORD FOCUS MIDGET CAR SERIES STANDINGS 1.
