Fast Car, Bad Luck End Newman's Day

New Castle, IN - After qualifying 6th and starting 1st due to an inversion, Ryan Newman was hit with a shot of bad luck that dropped him to 22nd in the running order for the USAC MCI WorldCom Midget Car race at Mt. Lawn Speedway Saturday. Newman also won the heat race preceding the main event.

His run of misfortune began soon after the green flag was waved. On the second lap of the feature, a part of the suspension broke in the right front shock causing Newman to run straight into the wall. "It was unfortunate because we had a good car," Newman commented. "All we can do is repair the damage to the car. Thankfully, this isn't the car we're running on Wednesday night. We can fix this one as a spare."

Newman remains 2nd in the USAC MCI WorldCom Midget Series points standings. Newman is also the current point leader for the USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet Series.

Ryan returns to action tomorrow night at the Indianapolis Raceway Park racing in the Mel Kenyon Classic. The night's event will be broadcast on Saturday, August 21st at 8:30pm EST on ESPN2.
