MIDGETS GEAR UP FOR TEXAS RETURN OCT. 14-15; $25,000 WIRE-TO-WIRE VICTORY FOR HINES AT ELDORA

The USAC National Midget Series is in the midst of a three-week layoff preparing for its first trip to the Lone Star State of Texas in 34 years! Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle, Texas hosts the Oct. 14-15 weekend, with a 40-lap feature Friday and a 100-lapper Saturday.

The last appearance of the USAC Midget is Texas saw Gary Bettenhausen win a 100-lap race inside the Houston Astrodome on March 11, 1972.

Jerry Coons Jr. continues to lead the series standings in search of his first USAC National title, currently 30 points ahead of Jay Drake. Coons finished fifth and Drake 11th in this year's Mopar Thunder & The 4-Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, a race which was held in the early-morning hours of Sunday after rains played havoc with Saturday's timetable.

Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. grabbed the $25,000 winner's paycheck for winning the 25-lap Midget feature at Eldora, leading wire-to-wire in his Wilke-Pak Team Mopar/Leader Cards Spike/Stanton Mopar. Australian Adam Clarke finished second ahead of fast qualifier Darren Hagen, Davey Ray and Coons.
