COONS THE TARGET IN "4-CROWN" MIDGETS SATURDAY; CLAUSON WIRE-TO-WIRE IN ANDERSON 30-LAPPER

Jerry Coons, Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. appears on his way to a repeat USAC National Midget Series championship and he will be the prime target for competing drivers in Saturday's Chevrolet Present An American Revolution 27th "4-Crown Nationals" at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.

Coons has annexed some major victories in recent weeks and would like to add the "4-Crown" to his resume, holding a sizeable 127-point lead over Darren Hagen in the current series standings. He finished fifth in last year's 25-lapper behind winner Tracy Hines, who remains sidelined with injuries suffered in an early-season motorcycle accident near his home.

Coons was also fifth in last Saturday's 30-lap feature at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway behind race winner Bryan Clauson. Clauson, of Noblesville, Ind., led all 30 laps in the Keith Kunz Motorsports Advanced Racing/Sanders Engineering Beast/Esslinger Ford to beat Dakoda Armstrong, fast qualifier Bobby East, Dave Darland and Coons.

Also among entrants for Saturday's "4-Crown" is J.J. Yeley, who won last Saturday's "New Hampshire 50" USAC K & N Silver Crown Championship race at Loudon, N.H. Yeley won the "4-Crown" Midget race in 2001. Former "4-Crown" Midget champs Danny Stratton (2005) and Darland (1999 and 2004) are also among early entries.
