Tyler wins 4-Crown; hines joins title chase.

Brian Tyler of Parma, Mich. captured Saturday night's 22nd Annual 50-lap "4-Crown Nationals" USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown feature at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Tyler led the final 12 laps in his Print Express/Utility Peterbilt Chevy/Beast after passing Jay Drake on lap 39.

Drake won the pole starting spot for the race presented by the University of Northwestern Ohio and led the first 38 laps before losing the lead in traffic. He finished second, ahead of Tracy Hines, Rich Tobias, Jr. and Matt Westfall.

"The car was good right out of the box," admitted Tyler after the race. "It was tough to pass but I was able to run right up against the wall and that helped. It was a long race and once I got into a rhythm I was alright."

Series point leader J.J. Yeley finished 12th and takes a 26-point lead over Dave Steele into the October 11-12 series finale at Syracuse, N.Y. Steele finished 17th in Saturday night's race and Yeley won the 20-lap "qualifying race" which preceded the 50-lap feature.

Hines' finish boosted him into title contention, just one point behind Steele, with 66 points available in the "Little Trees Salt City 100" at Syracuse.
