Yeley, Hines "tie" at Joliet; lead remains at 40.
J.J. Yeley's lead in the Earl's Pro-Lite 350 Fast Qualifier Championship remains at 40 points over Tracy Hines after each driver earned nine points in weekend USAC racing action.
Yeley was the Turbines, Inc. fastest qualifier for Saturday night's Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car race at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., while Hines was second fastest in the Sprint Cars and fourth in the National Midget Cars.
Earl's points are available in this Saturday night's USAC Western Midget Car race at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway and will be available in all three USAC portions of the September 20-21 "4-Crown Nationals" at Rossburg, Ohio September 20-21.
A $20,000 bonus will be paid to the driver accumulating the most points during 2002 in five USAC racing series, computed through an international point system utilized specifically for this title.
The system somewhat mirrors the system used for years for determining the World Driving Champion, with nine points for fast qualifying time, six for second, four for third, three for fourth, two for fifth and one for sixth. Series included in the Earl's Pro-Lite 350 Hose Fast Qualifier Championship are the Weld Racing Silver Crown Series, the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series, Western Sprint Car Series, National and Western Midget Car Series.
The $20,000 cash bonus will be presented at the USAC Champions Night in Indianapolis at season's end.
