Drake-Yeley-Hines War Continues at Terre Haute!
Jay Drake, J.J. Yeley and Tracy Hines are separated by only two points for the 2003 Earl's Plumbing USAC Sprint Car Qualifying Championship entering this Saturday night's "Harvest Sprint Classic" at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track. Drake and Yeley are tied, with Hines two points in arrears. Only two races remain on the 2003 USAC National Sprint Car calendar.
Hines raked in 15 Earl's points in National Midget competition last week, posting the fastest qualifying time at Indianapolis Raceway Park Saturday and second fastest at Terre Haute, Ind. Thursday. Jerry Coons, Jr. was Thursday's fastest Terre Haute qualifier. Hines' lead in the Earl's Plumbing National Midget Fast Qualifier standings stands at 16 over Yeley.
Earl's points this week will also be distributed at USAC Western Sprint and Midget Car races Saturday at the Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway.
This year, each USAC National and Western Series qualifying champion will receive a $5,000 bonus from Earl's in recognition of their accomplishment. Points are earned at each USAC event based on an international system awarding the top-six qualifiers with points in the following scale: 1st-9. 2nd-6, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2, 6th-1.
