IN "RUMBLE IN THE BUCKEYE STATE" AT COLUMBUS

Blake Fitzpatrick of Terre Haute, Ind. led all 50 laps to win Saturday night's inaugural "Rumble in the Buckeye State" at the Ohio State Fairgrounds Expo Center in Columbus. The 15-year-old high school freshman ended up starting on the pole when the designated pole starter, Matt Westfall, encountered steering problems before the green flag.

Fitzpatrick and his Lincoln Trail Ford/Forsythe Racing Kenyon/Yamaha finished with a half-lap lead over runner-up Tim Jedrzejek. Rounding out the "top-five" were Shane Hollingsworth, Mike Fedorcak and Jon Stanbrough.

NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader of Fenton, Mo. earned a feature starting berth but lasted only 18 laps before encountering mechanical problems. He finished 11th in the 12-car field.

The next USAC Midget race features the National and Western series in the Feb. 9-10 "The Copper on Dirt" at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz. The Phoenix "tripleheader" also showcases the USAC Silver Crown cars and the USAC/CRA Sprint cars.
