MIDGETS GEARING UP FOR SEPT. 9 "HUT HUNDRED;" DURST TAKES ANGELL PARK, HATTON WINS "HALL OF FAME" TITLE

A tight point race for the 2006 USAC National Midget Championship now heads for the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track and the Sept. 9 Clabber Girl "Hut Hundred" presented by First Financial Bank, Clabber Girl and the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Jerry Coons Jr. leads Bryan Clauson by only 18 points, while Jay Drake, Dave Darland and Josh Wise all consider themselves as contenders as the series is idle this week. Drake trails Coons by 55 points, while Darland is only one behind Drake and Wise is 22 back of Darland.

Ryan Durst won Saturday night's 30-lap USAC feature at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. which kicked off the track's two-night "Hall of Fame Classic" weekend. Coons won Sunday night's Badger feature and Scott Hatton of Roscoe, Ill emerged as the "Hall of Fame Classic" Champion following second-place finishes in both races.

Durst's victory was his first under USAC sanction as he led the final 17 laps in his Kasey Kahne Racing Curb/Lamers Motorsports Spike/Stanton Mopar. Davey Ray led the first 13 laps but slipped behind Durst and Hatton at the checkered flag. He was followed by Clauson and Tracy Hines.
