Gordon Seeks "Little 500" History Saturday

Eric Gordon of Indianapolis, Ind. will be seeking his fourth consecutive victory in America's most spectacular short track classic Saturday night the 56th Annual PayLess/Delco Remy "Little 500" Sprint car race at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway. The race offers record total prize money, including accessories, of $120,605!

If he ties Bob Frey's record of four consecutive wins (1987-1990) he will break Frey's all-time record of five race wins with what would be Gordon's sixth! Eric won the race in 1993, 1998 and the past three years.

Gordon's quest will begin at the 1/4-mile paved oval Wednesday as practice for the 500-lap classic opens from 11 am to 3 pm, preceding the same night's "USAC 50" Valvoline National Sprint Car event.

Thursday is "Pole Day" at Anderson, with qualifying from 10 am to 3:30 pm. Final qualifying is slated Friday from 10 am to 3:30 pm to set the 33-car, three-abreast field.

The 500-lap contest will start at 8 pm on Saturday night and will most likely include a number of USAC champions and former race winners. Among top threats for victory will be 2003 pole winner Dave Steele and 2002 "Rookie of the Race" and 2003 runnerup Tony Hunt.

Special awards and cash prizes are posted for track records, qualifying awards, laps led, hard luck, position improvement and the "Rookie of the Race."
