Aaron Pierce of Muncie, Ind. paced final-day qualifiers for the 57th Payless/Remy International "Little 500" USAC Special Event Sprint Car race Friday as the 33-car field was filled and four cars were bumped. The 500-lap classic will start at 8 pm Saturday night at the 1/4-mile paved Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.

Pierce will start 16th in the 33-car field, which will be paced by pole-winner Tom Fedewa of Dimondale, Mich. and fellow front-row starters Dave Steele of Tampa, Fla. and Tim Barber of San Francisco, Calif.

In the field are three former winners and nine race rookies. Former winners include six-time defending champion Eric Gordon of Indianapolis, Ind., who is aiming at a record fifth consecutive victory; two-time champion Jeff Bloom of Bangor, Mich. and 1996 champ Steele.

The race offers the largest purse (over $120,000) in American pavement sprint car racing and a three-abreast, 33-car start.
